The Purge isn't just American
Just because this weekend centers around American Independence, doesn't mean the rest of the world gets left out.
At least not when it comes to the woke purge.
Our friendly Canadian neighbors to the North, who only JUST were let out of emergency COVID-19 lockdown, proceeded to immediately use their freedom to continue cleansing societal cleanse.
In their world, every scrap of history, culture, and ANYTHING that so much as hints that Western Society is anything but racist, violent and inherently evil must go.
5 years ago, we had philosophical debates about Confederate Statutes in the American South but LAUGHED at the prospect that statutes of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington would go.
Fast forward to 2021 America and we have not only have we seen Jefferson and Washington torn down, but others such as Francis Scott Key (writer of the Star Spangled Banner), Ronald Reagan, Ponce De Leon, Teddy Roosevelt, Ulysses S. Grant and Abraham Lincoln, and even black abolitionist Frederick Douglass.
In addition to this latest vandalism of the Captain Cook statute, Canadian's have torn down statutes of Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.
While in the US, cowardly rioters can hide their true motives behind the call for "racial equity" and the flag of the openly socialist Black Lives Matter organization. Canada's latest riots expose the truth.
It's not REALLY about justice. It's about completely destroying society.
While the claim is that the Colonial British statutes were taken down in protest over the injustice of indigenous residential schools - this logic fails the smell test.
Residential schools were a 19th century invention, most of which were closed by the mid-20th century. The last of which closed in 1997. Tearing down statutes today won't change history or impact current policy. It does nothing to move Canada forward.
It does remind us that this DOES NOT end.
And when law enforcement fails to act, or worse, SELECTIVELY defends statutes and monuments (for example stationing round the clock police protection for George Floyd and BLACK LIVES MATTER monuments but none for George Washington) - we are giving a nod of approval to political and cultural pogrom's.
We laughed at the idea of George Washington disappearing 5 years ago. Do we laugh now at the idea that a synagogue might burn in response to anti-Israeli sentiment? How about the looting of a Roman Catholic Church?
Remember statutes of Catholic Priests, Saints and the Virgin Mary have ALREADY been vandalized, removed, or destroyed by rioters. Is escalation such a far step?
These type of purges are exactly why our forbearers left the Old World for the New. We must remain mindful of this history as we find a new way forward into this uncertain future.
